REQUIREMENTS FOR TAKING THE COURSE:
To participate in the United Parachute Technologies (Vector/Sigma)
or Stunts (Eclipse) Tandem Examiner course you need to show the following:
- 21 years of age
- At least 500 Tandem jumps
- Hold a USPA D-license or foreign equivalent
- Hold a current FAA Class III medical certificate or foreign equivalent
- Have 3 letters of recommendation (from an S&TA, Tandem Examiner,
or an Official in your Parachute Organization)
- Currently possess a Manufacturers Tandem rating on the specific
equipment
THE COURSE:
The Tandem Examiner course will take 3 days (weather
permitting). The course consists of classroom, jumps, and ground evaluations
(see attached schedule). The class starts with verification of the requirements.
The Manufacturers Tandem Manual's are required (these are the course books).
These may be purchased from the appropriate manufacturer or you can download
them from their web sites (www.uptvector.com for Vector/Sigma). You will
also be required to purchase specific course materials (see course fees below).
YOU NEED TO BRING THE FOLLOWING:
- USPA membership card with D-license number (or foreign equivalent)
- Copy of a current FAA Class III medical certificate or military
equivalent
- Copy of logbook pages with 500 Tandem jumps
- 3 Letters of Recommendation
You will be tested on 2 ground training exercises
from the training outline provided, conduct a skill analysis of a video (provided),
and are required to make 3 jumps (1-as a Tandem Instructor, 1-as a Tandem
Passenger, and 1-as a Tandem Safety). I require you to make these jumps
during the course and they will be video taped for use in a skill analysis
evaluation.

COURSE FEES:
The course fee is $300 for the training. This cost
includes the ground instruction, and the examiner fee for the evaluation jumps.
My Tandem equipment may be rented at $35.00 per jump or you may use drop
zone specific equipment. You will still be responsible for the jump tickets
(for yourself on each jump and for the video person when conducting the
Tandem Instructor jump). You must also purchase the instructor handles and
Examiners guidebook (with videos) for $140. The rating fees are $25
for the United Parachute Technologies and $45 for Stunts. You would also
be responsible for the Course Directors travel, transportation on-site, and
lodging (to be determined).
