REQUIREMENTS FOR TAKING THE COURSE:
To participate in the Stunts Tandem instructor rating course you need the
following:
- 18 years of age
- At least 500 ram air jumps
- Hold a USPA D-license or foreign equivalent
- Hold a current FAA Class III medical certificate or foreign equivalent
- At least 3 years in the sport
- Currently possess a USPA Coach or Instructional rating or foreign equivalent
THE COURSE:
TheTandem Instructor Rating Course will take 2-3
days (weather permitting). The course consists of one day of classroom, 10
evaluation jumps and a written exam. The class starts with verification of
the requirements. The Eclipse Tandem Manual is the course book and must be
purchased from Stunts Manufacturing prior to the course (visit their website
www.skydivemontereybay.com). The questions for the written test are in the
Manual and there is a study guide online. It is an open book test and can
be done at home prior to the course.
You need to bring copies of:
- USPA membership card with D-license number and coach or instructor endorsement
- Copy of a current FAA Class III medical certificate or military equivalent
- Copy of logbook pages with 500 jumps (unless USPA card shows a Gold
Wings award)
- Copy of logbook pages showing 3 years in the sport and 4 hours of freefall
After the first 5 evaluation jumps you can make
the other 5 tandem jumps with anexperienced jumper who has at least 100 jumps.
I require you to make these jumps during the course with the examiner or
a designated person for continuous education and to complete the requirements
for the USPA Tandem rating.
COURSE FEES:
The course fee is $300 for the training. This
cost includes the ground instruction, and the examiner fee for the evaluation
jumps. My Tandem equipment may be rented at $35.00 per jump ($350) or you
may use drop zone specific equipment. You will still be responsible for the
jump tickets (20 slots). Stunts Manufacturing charges a $45 rating fee.Ask
for group discounts!
CROSS- TRAINING:
If you already possess a current Tandem Instructor
rating from another manufacturer you can get crossed over to the Eclipse
rating.
To qualify for cross-training you must:
- Possess a current rating from another manufacturer
- Show proof of at least 25 jumps on this system
- Meet all the requirements for the initial Stunts tandem course (see
above)
You need to bring copies of:
- Current tandem rating
- 25 tandem jumps
- USPA card with D-license and Instructional endorsement
- FAA medical certificate or military equivalent
The course consists out of a classroom portion
and a minimum of 2 examination jumps. Cross-over candidates must also make
the open book written exam.
COURSE FEES:
The course fee is $170 and covers the instruction,
the examiners fee for the evaluation jumps and the use of the tandem equipment
(if we use the drop zones equipment cost is only $100). You will still be
responsible for the jumptickets (4 slots). The RWS charges $45 rating fee.
