THE PROFICIENCY CARD
The Coach proficiency card is in the back of the USPA Instructional Rating Manual (IRM). You need a current IRM and SIM for the course. ("Current" means your copy of the manuals must not be older then 24 months.) The proficiency card serves as your rating application form after you have completed all portions of the USPA Coach course.
Take a look at the proficiency card and you will see that some items need to be signed off prior to the course. Many topics on the card will be signed off during the course by either the coach examiner or by your evaluator.
THE COURSE
The course starts on the scheduled first day at 9:00 a.m. with verification of the requirements (outlined above) so bring your membership card and logbook if necessary. The course is conducted over three-days (see the day-to-day schedule below) including all ground skills and the two air skills evaluations. To be successful each candidate must score satisfactory on two-directed teaching sections and on all topics for ground preparation for group free fall skills. You must score satisfactory on two-evaluation jumps to test your air skills. Each candidate must score at least 80 percent on the USPA written exam. This is an open book test and must be completed prior to the start of the course. The questions are in the IRM andSIM.
COURSE MATERIAL
All portions of the USPA Coach Rating Course are covered in the IRM and SIM. If the SDU coach rating is desired you will need to order your course materials from www.skydiveu.com at a cost of $100.00 to Skydive University in addition to the USPA documents. You are also responsible for the cost of the jump tickets for yourself, the evaluator, and video fees and slots.
